Wat Lao Buddhavong Voting Process and Procedures
1. Who is eligible to vote?
Voting is open to all members of Wat Lao Buddhavong who reside in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia, are over 18 years old, support the Lao community, and respect Buddhist teachings. Each member is entitled to one vote.
2. How do I register to vote?
You must either complete a voting registration form or be listed on the existing membership list to participate in voting.
3. What type of identification is required to vote?
Voters must present a valid photo ID. Acceptable forms include:
– Driver’s License
– Passport
– State-Issued ID Card
– Military ID
4. When and where will the voting take place?
– Date: October 19, 2024
– Time: Voting will begin at 9:00 AM and close at 4:00 PM.
– Location: Wat Lao Buddhavong, 3043 Catlett Rd, Catlett, VA 20119
5. What should I do when I arrive to vote?
You will check in at the registration table, present your photo ID, and receive a ballot after verification. You will then proceed to the designated voting area to cast your vote.
6. Can I vote more than once?
No. Each member is allowed to cast only one vote. Multiple voting by the same individual is strictly prohibited.
7. What happens if I arrive at the voting site just before closing time?
Voting will close at 4:00 PM, but any member who is in line by 4:00 PM will still be allowed to vote.
8. How will the votes be counted?
Votes will be counted immediately after the polls close, with supervision by designated officials to ensure transparency.
9. When and how will the election results be announced?
Election results will be announced on October 19, 2024, after the vote count concludes. The results will also be posted on the temple doors and Wat Lao’s website.
10. How can I run for a Board of Director position?
Interested individuals must submit their application by October 10, 2024. Applicants must reside in the DMV area. There are seven board positions available, split into two groups:
– Group A: 4 positions with a 4-year term.
– Group B: 3 positions with a 3-year term.
11. What is the purpose of the Board of Directors at Wat Lao Buddhavong?
The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the governance, financial management, and strategic direction of the temple. They ensure that the temple operates in accordance with its mission and bylaws while maintaining transparency and accountability to the community.
12. What qualifications are required to serve on the Board of Directors?
Candidates should:
– Be of Lao heritage.
– Demonstrate a commitment to Buddhist values and respect for the Lao community’s spiritual traditions.
– Be at least 18 years old and reside in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia.
– Have no felony convictions within the past 10 years. Older convictions must be disclosed.
– Not serve as a director for another nonprofit organization.
